He still remembered the first time they had ever met. She was so different back in those days...and hell, come to think of it, so was he. But yet, she is still the same lass, deep down, that had charmed him so powerfully, all those years ago...
He had walked into the Great Hall of the realm. Just another night, nothing special. As usual, the room was filled with all manner of spectacular beings. The greatest, most wealthy, most powerful of all creatures liked to congregate here. The ancient and mighty...dragons and demigods, who could summon diamonds out of thin air.
However, he never had such a skill, and so he had to work for his wealth... sailing the leagues of the sea, bartering with strange peoples, and counting the pennies along the way. And so, when he stepped into the warmth of the hall, he was exhausted, and quickly sought the most comfortable chair he could find.
He went unnoticed in the din, and he was happy to be ignored this time...he was Just This Guy.
Except, there was a young lady, Just Some Chick, who didn't feel like ignoring him. Not willing to leave him be, she started in on him. With a sassy smile, she dragged him out of his stupor...poking fun, making jokes, delivering friendly insults.
Soon enough, he was perched up in his chair, smiling as he tried to keep up with her barbed wit. Something in his mind was asking "who the hell IS this woman?"...But, the next time he ventured into the grand hall, he realized that he was happy to see the cocky grin on her face.
Of course, they ended up becoming good friends, and they helped each other through heart-break and trouble over the years. They both changed, as people do with the passage of time. Friends, family, and careers pulled them each along their paths. He had reached the pinnacle of his career, and she had become a great leader of men. They had met years ago, but still he counted her as one of his dearest friends.
And to this day, when he thought about that young lady, with her sarcastic wit and wry grin, he would laugh, happy to be her friend, and marvel about what a brat she had always been.
